What a day here can hold

Eight hours with a driver covers the region properly. A well-shaped day usually includes some combination of:

Interlaken — the town between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and the regional hub
Lauterbrunnen — a glacial valley with 72 waterfalls, the Staubbach falling almost 300 m past the village
Grindelwald — directly beneath the Eiger north face
Trümmelbach Falls — ten glacier waterfalls inside the mountain, reached by a tunnel lift
Brienz — woodcarving village on a startlingly turquoise lake
The Brünig Pass as a scenic route in or out via Lucerne

Jungfraujoch — worth knowing before you commit

"Top of Europe" is the region's headline attraction: a railway to 3,454 m, the highest station in Europe. It is genuinely remarkable and there are two honest caveats.

First, it is expensive and slow — the round trip from Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald takes most of a day by itself, which means Jungfraujoch effectively is your day rather than part of it. Second, it is entirely weather-dependent: in cloud you pay a great deal to stand inside a building you cannot see out of.

The alternatives are excellent and much less demanding. Schynige Platte, Harder Kulm above Interlaken and the Männlichen cable car all give you the high alpine views for a fraction of the time and cost. Your driver will tell you what the mountain actually looks like on the day, which is the single most useful piece of advice on this tour.

The car-free villages

Wengen and Mürren cannot be reached by road. We drive to Lauterbrunnen and the mountain railway and cable car take over — a short and frequent connection, and both villages are worth the change if you have the time.

Is Jungfraujoch included?

No — mountain railway tickets are bought separately. It is also worth knowing that the Jungfraujoch round trip takes most of a day on its own, so it tends to replace the rest of the itinerary rather than fit inside it.

Is Jungfraujoch worth it?

On a clear day it is remarkable. In cloud it is an expensive way to stand indoors. Schynige Platte, Harder Kulm and Männlichen give superb alpine views for far less time and money, and your driver will tell you honestly what the weather is doing.

Can we visit Wengen or Mürren?

Yes, though not by road — both are car-free. We drive to Lauterbrunnen and you continue by mountain railway or cable car, which is quick and frequent.

How long is the tour?

A full day is about eight hours with the vehicle and driver. The Bernese Oberland does not really compress into a half day once the drive is counted.

Can we take the scenic Brünig route?

Yes — via Lucerne and along Lake Brienz. It adds time but is one of the loveliest drives in the country. Mention it when you book.

Can you collect us from Zürich, Lucerne or Interlaken?

Any of them, at your hotel door. Tours start and end wherever you are staying.
