Geneva Airport to Verbier, up the switchbacks.
Fast road most of the way, then a genuine mountain ascent. Verbier sits at 1,500 m above Le Châble, and the last twenty minutes are the reason you want a driver who does this weekly.
The drive
Along Lake Geneva past Lausanne and Montreux, into the Rhône valley at Martigny, then up the Val de Bagnes to Le Châble. From there the road switchbacks steeply up to Verbier — about 1,500 m of altitude, most of it gained in the final stretch.
That last climb is the whole story of this transfer. It is a well-maintained road and entirely routine in summer. In January, in snow, in the dark, on changeover Saturday, it is a road you want in the hands of someone who drives it regularly with winter tyres and chains in the vehicle. That is standard on this route for us, not an upgrade.
Verbier, and the 4 Vallées
Verbier anchors the 4 Vallées, the largest ski area in Switzerland, and draws a crowd that arrives in concentrated bursts — the resort is famously busy at New Year and in February half-term, and quiet in between.
We drop at chalet and hotel doors throughout the resort, including the higher lanes above the centre. If your chalet is somewhere a coach genuinely cannot reach, tell us and we will send a vehicle that can rather than leaving you at the nearest wide spot with the bags.
A note on the cable car
There is a cable car from Le Châble up to Verbier, and it is a good option for day skiers. For an arriving guest with a week's luggage and ski bags it is a poor substitute for being driven to the door — you would still need to get from the cable car station to the chalet. We drive the whole way.

Worth knowing
Train or private transfer?
Rail reaches Le Châble via Martigny, and then you still have the mountain to climb.
Take the train when…
- You are one or two people travelling light
- You are happy with two changes and then a cable car or bus
- You are arriving mid-day outside changeover Saturday
Take a private transfer when…
- You have ski equipment — the transitions are what make rail hard here
- You want the chalet door, not Le Châble
- You are three or more
- You are arriving on a winter Saturday, when everything is slower
- You are landing late — the mountain connections finish early
Questions
What people ask us.
How long is Geneva Airport to Verbier?
About 1 hour 50 minutes for roughly 160 km, along Lake Geneva and up the Val de Bagnes. Allow extra on winter Saturdays.
Can you drive right up to my chalet?
In almost all cases, yes, including the higher lanes. Tell us the address when you book and we will send a vehicle that can reach it.
Is the road to Verbier difficult in winter?
It is a steep switchback climb that is well maintained but demands winter equipment and familiarity. Winter tyres are fitted for the season and chains are carried as standard on this route.
Should I take the cable car from Le Châble instead?
It is fine for day skiing, but with a week's luggage it leaves you needing onward transport at the top. We drive the whole way to the door.
How much ski equipment can you take?
Tell us ski, board and boot bags separately when you book. Groups travelling with full equipment usually need one vehicle size larger than the seat count suggests.
