Basel EuroAirport transfers, all three sides.
Basel EuroAirport is shared by three countries and has separate Swiss and French exits. Knowing which one you are coming out of is most of the job — and we check it before you land.
One airport, two countries, two exits
EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg physically sits on French soil but has a customs-separated Swiss sector connected by a dedicated road. Which exit you use determines which country you are standing in — and it is entirely possible to leave through the wrong one and find yourself in France when your hotel is in Basel.
It matters for a transfer because the two sides have different access roads and different pickup points. We check your flight and your onward destination when you book, and your driver meets you in the correct hall with a name board. If you do come out on the wrong side, call the driver — the number is in your confirmation, and it is a fixable ten-minute problem rather than a crisis.
Where people go from Basel
Basel is the natural gateway to north-western Switzerland and to a surprising amount of Germany and France:
- Basel city — about 15 minutes to the centre and the pharma campuses
- Zürich — about an hour on the A3
- Lucerne and the Bernese Oberland — around 1 h 15 to 2 h
- Freiburg and the Black Forest — about 45 minutes into Germany
- Colmar, Strasbourg and Alsace — under an hour into France
- Any Swiss ski resort, as a quieter alternative to Zurich or Geneva
Business travel and the pharma corridor
Basel is a life-sciences city, and a large share of the work we do here is corporate: arrivals for the campuses at Allschwil and the Rhine, congress transport, and cross-border trips to sites in Germany and France that would otherwise need three separate taxis and a lot of explaining. One vehicle, one driver, three countries, one invoice.
Questions
What people ask us.
Which exit will my driver meet me at?
Whichever your flight and destination require — we confirm it when you book, and your confirmation names the meeting point and the driver's mobile number.
What if I come out of the wrong sector?
Call your driver. It happens regularly and is a straightforward fix — the two sides are connected, it just takes a few minutes.
Can you take me into France or Germany?
Yes. Alsace, Freiburg and the Black Forest are routine, and our vehicles and drivers are documented for cross-border work.
How long is Basel Airport to Basel city centre?
About 15 minutes in normal traffic.
Is Basel a sensible airport for skiing?
It can be, particularly for the Bernese Oberland, and it is often quieter than Zurich or Geneva. If the fares work, ask us for a comparison before you book flights.
