Which airport for which resort

This is the question worth answering before you book flights, because the wrong airport can add two hours each way.

Geneva (GVA) — Zermatt, Verbier, Crans-Montana, Saas-Fee, Villars, Les Diablerets, and the French resorts including Chamonix
Zurich (ZRH) — Davos, Klosters, St. Moritz, Engelberg, Laax, Flims, Arosa, Lenzerheide
Basel (BSL) — a sensible third option for the Bernese Oberland and worth checking if the fares are better
Milan Malpensa — occasionally the fastest way into the Engadin and Ticino, over the passes

What "winter equipped" actually means

A lot of operators say it. In practice it should mean all of the following, and ours does:

Winter tyres fitted for the season, not all-seasons, and not fitted the week it first snows
Snow chains carried on every mountain route, and drivers who have fitted them in the dark before
Drivers who run these passes all winter rather than seeing them once a year
Capacity planned around equipment, because skis are the actual constraint, not people

Equipment is the thing people get wrong

The single most common problem on a ski transfer is a vehicle that seats the group but cannot carry the group's kit. Six passengers with six sets of skis, boots and boot bags is not a six-seat vehicle — it is the next size up.

So when you book, tell us the ski bags, board bags and boot bags as separate numbers from the suitcases. We would far rather send a Sprinter at the quoted price than have a driver and six guests solving a geometry problem in an airport car park.

Saturday, and why it matters

Alpine weeks run Saturday to Saturday, so the entire season's transfer demand compresses into one day a week. Roads are busier, journey times inflate, and vehicles genuinely sell out in peak weeks — Christmas, New Year, February half-terms.

Two practical consequences: book your Saturday transfers as early as you can, and if your dates are flexible at all, a Sunday or Friday arrival is a calmer and faster journey.

The car-free resorts

Several of the best Swiss resorts do not allow visitor vehicles, and each has its own hand-off. It is much better to know in advance:

Zermatt — we drive to Täsch; a 12-minute shuttle train completes the journey
Wengen and Mürren — we drive to Lauterbrunnen; mountain railway and cable car from there
Saas-Fee — vehicles stop at the village car parks; electric taxis and porters handle the rest

What people ask us.

Do your vehicles have winter tyres and snow chains?

Yes. Winter tyres are fitted for the whole season, chains are carried on mountain routes, and our drivers run these passes throughout the winter. It is included, not an optional extra.

How much ski equipment can you carry?

It depends on the vehicle, which is why we ask for ski, board and boot bags as separate figures when you book. As a rule, a group travelling with full equipment needs one size larger than the seat count suggests.

Which airport should I fly into for my resort?

Geneva for Zermatt, Verbier, Saas-Fee, Crans-Montana and the French Alps; Zurich for Davos, Klosters, St. Moritz, Laax, Arosa and Engelberg. Ask us before you book flights if you are unsure — the wrong airport can add two hours each way.

What happens if a pass closes or a road is blocked?

We monitor conditions on the day and reroute where there is a sensible alternative — for the Engadin, for example, the Vereina car-carrying rail tunnel. We will always tell you before departure rather than discovering it with you en route.

How early should I book a Saturday transfer?

As early as you can. Alpine changeover is on Saturdays, so demand concentrates on one day and vehicles do sell out in Christmas, New Year and February half-term weeks.

Can you collect us from the chalet at the end of the week?

Yes, and it is worth booking both directions at the same time. Departure Saturdays are just as busy as arrival Saturdays.
